Success in Different Realms of Life




Preview From an interview I did with Leadership VIP (Part 1) http://www.leadershipvip.com/​ ​ What do you think are the keys to having success in so many different realms of life?

I think a lot of it comes down to balance, constant learning, and time management. Some of the keys for me is I don't waste time doing things that aren't really propelling me forward in the right direction. Many times, many people get stuck in the entertainment world. "Let's watch a sports game," or "Let's just watch TV," or "Let's listen to the radio in the  car." One of the things that I'm always doing is always looking to learn. I’m trying to learn from the best that are out there, from athletes, to business leaders, or people doing cool stuff. Another thing is knowing how to come back from minor setbacks. Those are some of things that I'm always focused on, every day, we have setbacks, and how you overcome those setbacks are the keys. But, I think it comes down to balance, constant learning, and time management.


As a champion of several national endurance competitions, what were some of the toughest obstacles you've overcome throughout your journey?

​Overcoming obstacles is a daily chore. There's going to be a million things that try to deter you from your training, work, family obligations, and social obligations. Most of it comes down to purely time. I'm always ready to go at a moment's notice, to go out for a training session. I'm always constantly looking at my calendar and say, "Hey, do I have an hour free? Do I have a half an hour free? Do I have two hours free?" Some of my favorite workouts are the fast ones; the ones that you need to do quickly, with focus, and are going to allow you to be the most successful.

I'm always looking for times in the day where I can sneak out and I can get my workout done, but I’m also willing to get my job done at the same time. It's not uncommon for me to be up in the mountains at 5 am in the middle of winter, it's 10 below zero, and blowing 20 miles an hour to get my workouts in because I know that it's not going affect my life. It's not going to affect my wife and my kids because most of the time I'm always doing this stuff when the rest of the world is sleeping.  I think some of the ways to overcome the obstacles is to find time when you don't have the time. There's sort of that NET time, No Extra Time. The no extra time is when you can get that stuff done.
