Iyob Tessema is a 55-year old Human Resources Professional with over 25 years of management experience, who comes to us from "the passion world." He is a competitive Marathoner, Seasoned Coach, Athletic Consultant, and astute Olympic Historian/motivational speaker who lives in Los Angeles, California. Approximately 25 years ago, he adopted long distance running & swimming as cross-training sports to complement his endurance in semi-pro soccer competitions. Gradually, his passion for long distance won over, and he transitioned into intensifying his Running career, going “from zero, to hero”and successfully running his first LA Marathon in 1995. Never looking back, he maintained his consistency. To date, he has run his “home town marathon” alone for 23 consecutive years, and adding all the other marathons he has completed, he currently stands at a grand total of 64 marathons. Along the way, he has recorded 80 half marathons, and various other shorter distances (e.g. 10K, 5K, and others), too many to count!!! He has been named one of the most Inspirational Runners in California; and over two decades, has succesfully secured numerous sponsorships and endorsements from famous brands, such as; Saucony, Nike, Asics, K-Swiss, Sketchers and Hoka One One. He is a founding “Legacy Runner”at various races throughout Southern California, and enjoyed being featured in the LA Sports & Fitness Magazine, as well as appearing on LA's KNBC Channel 4 & KTLA Channel 5 TV’s “Morning Show.” In 2014, he was recognized by the California State Senate, the LA City Council & Mayor Eric Garcetti for his 20 years of active sports involvement in the community, and successfully achieving his 20-year goal of running 50 marathons by age 50. Alongside his races, Iyob enjoys raising funds as “Running Ambassador” representing “World of Children”, an organization which supports vulnerable children around the world.
Today, he is our podcast guest and will use his lifetime understanding about his legendary heroes & heroines to speak with authority about, "The Mystique of Ethiopian Distance Running."
