It blows my mind that these athletes who show up at the starting line in early July and can race for 3 weeks straight while continuing to get stronger throughout the race. Racing for 3 weeks straight takes an enormous amount of training, planning, and preparation, but being able to recover day after day and still being able to perform at such a high level sends my brain spinning.
How is it that that athletes who start a race like the tour, who on the verge of being over trained, sick and anorexic can compete and recover like they do? Is the secret recipe: rest, nutrition and massage or do PED’s (performance enhancing drugs) still come into play? I want to believe that they don’t, but I am highly skeptical.
Let’s take this to a more local level? Do you think PED’s are being used in master’s and amateur ranks? We all know folks who are questionable, but how prevalent do you think it is? Or Have you been exposed to PED’s?
This is a question that comes up a lot in discussions, what are your thoughts?
I would love to get your insight.
